All my Words

All my Words • Hannah "Reagan" Judd

I think

I lost

All my words

I think

I lost

All the thoughts

The words used to cascade out of me

So deep blue, they froze my skin

So green, they grew from my mouth like evergreens in the forest

They were mountains, lakes of emotions I couldn’t contain

Was it shame

That moved in?

I think

I forgot

How to write

I think

I forgot

How to feel

I used to paint purple prayers

Words so devoted they covered my hands

Soil stuck under my fingernails

They were the petrichor that filled my senses in the autumn

They came so easily, but then

I think

I lost

All my words

I faltered

I hid

I let shame

Move in

That’s what I did.
